Jadyn Stevens

Jadyn crushed his cigarette into the ashtray for the last time and began running in 2006. "I figured if I was ever going to quit, I had to make myself hate the habit."  Aug. 1st 2006 he became a nonsmoker.  The following March he ran his first marathon and a year later his first 50 miler (Carl Touchstone LA 50).  He has never looked back.  "I run for the glory of Lord Jesus - it is my hope that each step is an embodiment of my praise for the risen King."  Since Jadyn's first ultra, he has continued his quest on trails. "I love getting really far out there.  There is something deeply profound beyond the confines of civilization." There is something so pure about the sport.  "When your pushed to the limit, everything else falls away and you must face yourself- it is a great method of self exploration and testing." "I love to train, in fact, it is just part of who I have become. I enjoy racing as a benefit of the time I put in. Jadyn has taken podium positions in 4 of his last 5 races. There is a great spirit in the ultra running community. I have made such great friends on the trails. I see it as a true blessing to be able to run... and love it" Race Stats:

Will Arnold

Why I Lace-Up:

Having realized in high-school that I have no hand-eye coordination, sports with balls were out of the question. So, in college, I hiked, bouldered, and cycled the Cumberland Plateau. The only time I ran was from my dorm to the ambulance on calls for Sewaneeʼs student-run emergency service. Before my senior year, a group of my mentors invited me to cycle with them.  Iʼd been an amateur junior cyclist in the 1990ʼs, and all these guys were in their 40ʼs and 50ʼs, so I thought Iʼd do well. I couldnʼt have been more wrong. After two years of getting dropped on 50-200 mile rides, I learned valuable lessons of endurance. Those lessons I later put into use racing bikes in Cat 4.

Running wasnʼt on my radar until 2006. My brother-in-law started running for fitness, and he inspired me, so I raced a 5k, 5 miler, half, then the 2007 CMM full which was held on the surface of the sun. Enduring that stoked a spark I had inside into a fire. I wanted more then and still do now.  Road or trail ultras, 50k or 50+ milers, 30+ mile training runs or long hikes, all are litmus-tests. “How far can I go today?”  I always seem to ask. Come run with me and see.

What I Love:

My family. My wife has been great support for me. God bless her patience. My five year old son is the best. He got his first pair of running shoes at Fleet Feet Nashville and holds up an “Ultra Daddy” sign at races.  My mom has driven me to the start of many races, some from which sheʼs ended up having to drive me home (sorry, mom).

My friends. Theyʼre the best. They seem to always get stuck driving me home, too, come to think of it. Flood or shine.

Inspiring others. My favorite thing to do as a runner these days! Iʼm jazzed, flattered, when I hear ve inspired another runner to get outside that comfortable “bubble” and really test himself or herself in any distance, from any training jog to a 50 miler.

Extremes. A 5k or an ultra. Running when Iʼm tired, or itʼs nasty outside, or itʼs really early, or itʼs really late. Eating healthy, then eating three Big-Macs and two Snickers.

 m Afraid Of:

Getting sick in public.  Other people. (Thatʼs why I really run ultras, right?)

What You Need:

Good socks. (Drymax, baby!) Good shoes. (Mizunos, son!) Hydration system. (waist or pack, child!)
