Lesedi Project

As part of the Lesedi Project, which helps disabled and disadvantaged children of the Ethembeni School in South Africa, Balega presented the InDuna Award to our store owner, Jeff Wells.

This honor is bestowed upon the store or individual who has shown outstanding leadership, commitment, and service to their local community throughout the preceding year.

Jeff received this award for his commitment to the Katrina relief effort and his selfless dedication to his local and extended community.

As part of this honor, Jeff participated in the 2006 Comrades Marathon, a 54 mile uphill race in South Africa!

Jeff continued his service last fall when he competed in the New York City Marathon alongside a disabled graduate of the Ethembeni School, in an effort to raise additional support for its students. He and the school would gladly welcome your support, whether it be through your encouragement or participation.

There are several ways for you to give a direct contribution to the school. You can donate by mailing a check through the mail, or by dropping it off in person at the store. You can also make a commemorative contribution through the purchase of beaded necklaces and bracelets, made by the children of the Ethembeni School. These items are currently available in our store.
